Dave Smith Instruments Tempest Analog Drum Machine (Pre-Owned)
Tempest is the brainchild of legendary instrument designers, Dave Smith and Roger Linn. It’s a professional drum machine that generates its sounds using six powerful analogue synthesis voices, and uses an innovative, performance-oriented operating system that permits an extraordinary level of control to create, edit, arrange, and manipulate beats in real time without ever stopping.
Key Features:
- Features six incredibly deep analog voices, allowing it to act as both a massive drum machine and a 6-voice polyphonic analog synthesizer.
- Driven by two analog oscillators (with hard sync) and two digital oscillators loaded with over 450 drum samples and waveforms per voice, plus a sub-octave generator.
- Includes classic Curtis analog low-pass filters (switchable 2- or 4-pole), high-pass filters, analog VCAs with programmable feedback, 5 envelopes, 2 LFOs, and an 8x8 modulation matrix per voice.
- Arranges sixteen velocity- and pressure-sensitive backlit pads in an 8x2 matrix, creating a sweet spot for both real-time finger drumming and step programming.
- Features two pressure- and position-sensitive touch ribbons (Note FX) for recording real-time parameter changes like filter sweeps and pitch shifts directly into your beats.
- Built for a non-stop live performance workflow, letting you record, switch beats, edit sounds, and tweak the mix without ever hitting the "stop" button.
- Houses a sophisticated real-time and step sequencer featuring Roger Linn's famous swing and groove modes.
- Glues your beats together with a purely analog master effects signal path, including a built-in stereo analog compressor and distortion.
- Includes a beat-synced delay and a dedicated "Roll" button for momentary stutter effects on the fly.
- Provides 6 direct individual voice outputs alongside the main stereo mix for separate tracking and processing.
- Equipped with MIDI In/Out, USB MIDI, a headphone out, and two inputs for foot switches or expression pedals.
